UD Trucks Southern Africa Expands its Aftersales Offering with the new Service Exchange Programme

A smarter approach to component replacement, designed to support uptime, value and customer choice.

Pretoria, South Africa – October 2026: UD Trucks Southern Africa is strengthening its aftermarket proposition with the introduction of its Service Exchange Programme, giving customers greater choice in how they manage critical component replacement while supporting vehicle uptime and total operating value.

The programme reinforces UD Trucks South Africa’s commitment to being its customers’ total transport solutions partner, strengthening its aftermarket proposition, designed to deliver greater value, dependable solutions and stronger customer support throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Service Exchange provides an alternative to purchasing a new replacement component, allowing customers to exchange eligible worn or damaged components for professionally restored units. The programme launches with engines, gearboxes and injectors, with plans to expand the offering to additional components including cylinder heads, starters, alternators, turbochargers and retarders.

For commercial vehicle operators, the decision to replace a major component is not simply a workshop decision. It can have a direct impact on vehicle availability, operating costs and business productivity. Service Exchange gives customers another option to consider when making that decision.

“At UD Trucks Ultimate Dependability is everything; it’s about delivering value beyond the initial vehicle purchase and supporting our customers throughout the lifecycle of their trucks and giving them solutions that help keep their businesses moving,” says Filip Van den Heede, Managing Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa.

A stronger aftermarket proposition

Service Exchange strengthens UD Trucks Southern Africa’s ability to offer customers solutions across different maintenance and replacement requirements.

When an eligible component requires replacement, the UD Trucks dealer assesses the vehicle and determines whether a Service Exchange unit is available and appropriate. The customer's worn component, known as the core, is then returned in accordance with the programme requirements for potential restoration and future use.

This approach gives customers an additional option between repairing an existing component and purchasing a new replacement. Depending on the application, component availability and repair requirement, Service Exchange can support customers in managing maintenance expenditure and vehicle downtime.

Service Exchange components are supported by a one-year warranty, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

Sanjay Naipal, Aftermarket Director at UD Trucks Southern Africa, says the programme is an important development in the company's aftermarket strategy.

“Customers operate in different environments and have different business priorities. A strong aftermarket proposition therefore cannot be one-dimensional. We need to provide customers with relevant choices that support their operational and commercial requirements”.

“Service Exchange adds another solution to that portfolio. It allows us to engage with customers earlier in the repair decision and demonstrate the broader value we can provide throughout the life of their vehicle.”

Creating greater value through the dealer network

The introduction of Service Exchange also strengthens the commercial opportunity for the UD Trucks dealer network.

Service Advisors and workshop teams can now engage customers around a broader range of solutions when a major component requires replacement. Rather than viewing a component replacement as a single transaction, dealers can help customers evaluate the available options based on vehicle application, component eligibility, availability, operating requirements, and total value.

This strengthens the dealer's role as a long-term business partner, rather than simply a point of repair.

“Service Exchange gives our dealers another way to demonstrate the value of the UD Trucks aftermarket,” says Deon Fourie, General Manager: Commercial Parts at UD Trucks Southern Africa.

“It creates an opportunity to have a more meaningful conversation with customers about their operational requirements and the options available to them. Ultimately, the objective is to help customers make informed decisions while keeping their vehicles productive.”

The programme also supports stronger customer retention by creating additional opportunities for dealers to remain engaged with customers throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Building a more sustainable aftermarket

Service Exchange also supports a more circular approach to component management. Suitable cores can be recovered, professionally restored and returned to service, reducing the need for every replacement requirement to result in a new component.

This approach supports both the commercial and sustainability objectives of the aftermarket proposition by extending component utilization while providing customers with additional replacement options.

Ultimate Dependability in action

The introduction of Service Exchange is a further evolution of Ultimate Dependability through our service offerings, bringing together UD Trucks Southern Africa's aftermarket capabilities around three core areas: Ultimate Value, Ultimate Partnership and Ultimate Performance.

Service Exchange contributes directly to this proposition by providing customers with greater value and choice, while leveraging the expertise of the UD Trucks dealer network to deliver dependable support.

The programme will initially cover engines, gearboxes, and injectors, with further components planned for future phases. Customers requiring a replacement engine, gearbox or injector are encouraged to contact their nearest UD Trucks dealer or Service Advisor to understand whether a Service Exchange solution is available for their vehicle.

Dealers can provide information on component eligibility, availability, pricing, core-return requirements and warranty coverage.

Service Exchange. More choice. More value. A stronger partner throughout the life of your truck.

The Service Exchange Programme is available on selected components only. Component availability, eligibility, core-return requirements, pricing, warranty coverage and other programme terms and conditions apply.
